Having the Last Word

We all live on the internet

But we don’t all wave your flag.

We giggle at your fanny packs

Instead, we wear bum bags.

You have different words for everything

You cut bangs into your hair,

Which is fringing into crazy

We just roll our eyes and stare.

You rappel rather than abseil.

We have mobiles you have cells.

Pants and trousers cause confusion,

Suspenders do as well.

You end you sentences with periods.

For us, that’s monthly flow,

Not obsessed over or monitored,

Remember Wade v Roe?

You speak of freedom and of liberty

Pretend truth’s in your domain,

Diversity’s a dirty word

You want everyone the same.

ICE is not just frozen water

Added to your drink

It’s vicious, cruel, divisive,

Pushing families to the brink.

You claim you believe in Jesus

But you’d deport him if you met,

A dark-skinned radical who preaches love

That’s truth – but you forget.

The price of eggs is paramount

Your rights you will defend

Buying guns with groceries

How can we be friends?

And yet with all the rotten apples,

Some still fight for a just cause

And we stand with you united

Raise your placards, we’ll applaud.
