Thoughts On Returning from Malta

Valetta at sunset

In 2020 we could only dream of holidays abroad.

The world stopped and let out a sigh,

Somehow nature recovered a bit.

Now we are back to relentless greed and power grabbing.

On the brink of war,

maybe already in it,

who can tell?

I've had my foreign holiday this year,

seen the busy airports,

contributed to global pollution.

But I’ve returned educated

On historic battles

Fought in far-off lands.

Sometimes I watch the news,

when it cannot be avoided any longer...

when I dare not look away…

don’t gaslight me

the world’s OK.

I lie in bed;

a cool breeze blows through the open window.

Time to get up and face another day,

enjoying the tiny moments,

praying for those

whose precious lives have been shattered.

If only we could catch the pieces

and build a better world together.
