Four Little Letters

RNLI flag flying at Woodbridge, photo taken while at Ruth Leigh’s book launch nearby.

Let’s nail my colours to the mast,

Not that there’s much doubt, the die is cast.

An unwanted piece of tat arrives,

I knew it was coming - this rag full of lies.

Promising much, delivering little,

Who wrote this self-serving, obnoxious drivel?

Coloured pens in hand, how should I deface it?

Moustaches? Old hat, let’s get more creative,

A found poem made by erasing some words?

Make pleasant ideas from the ones quite absurd.

But with little time I need a quick fix

To soothe my soul, a simpler trick.

I unclick my pen and make a start

This isn’t the greatest piece of art,

But I’ve highlighted letters important to me

And all those who need rescuing in the sea.
